Clever is our District’s current portal system.  All parents and students have an account in Clever to help them get connected to all the other systems we will be using.  Students and parents log into Clever differently.

Parents will log in to Clever at https://family.nsd.org.

The parent portal will give parents access to buttons for ParentVUE, Schoology, and other district systems.  It also provides a method for helping students to get logged in on their device.  This is called “Instant Login” and should be used only when a student has trouble logging themselves into Clever.

Parents were sent invitations to join Clever.  If your invitation has expired NSD will be sending out a new invitation shortly. Enter the email associated with your Northshore parent account.  

Students will log in to Clever at https://my.nsd.org.

Student accounts follow this pattern: the username is their email address and their password is the password they ended last school year with or the default (for new students).  Student accounts use the student’s ID number.  If you do not know your student’s ID number please look at their information in ParentVUE.  If you do not have a ParentVUE account, you can request an account and activation code here: https://form.jotform.com/200321140182132

Device Protection Program (DPP) and Fines for Damage or Loss

The DPP program covers the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or loss of the device.  We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used.  If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair. 

The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.If the assigned device is accidentally damaged, families will be charged according to the following deductible schedule:

●    1st Incident; $0
●    2nd Incident; 50% reduction of cost of repair
●    3rd Incident; Full cost of repair

Any loss of a device will result in a fine equal to the total cost of replacement of the device. This includes the device charger and bag.

Fines for damaged devices will be applied promptly and can be paid in our online payment system.  We cannot take replacement items such as power cables that were purchased on Amazon or at a retail store, as use of those items may cause safety issues or void warranties.

Standard Applications & Accounts

Standard applications and accounts that are configured for student use include (but are not limited to):

• Active Directory: Each student is given an account in Active Directory that they will use to log on to any district-owned computer within the district network and provide them with access to a cloud-based folder where their important documents and projects can be stored.  These credentials are also used to access our Library Catalog, GoogleApps for Education Environment, and Online Grades portal.
• Northshore’s Google Apps for Education Environment: This education-focused Google Apps environment is hosted by Google, and managed by the District.  This collection of online applications provides students with a Google email account, calendar, and access to GoogleDrive, where students can create, share, and publish documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and other artifacts of their learning. The District creates and manages user accounts; manages access to applications and email based on grade level organizations; and manages permissions. For example, email accounts the District creates for elementary students can only communicate with other email accounts created by the District. (Note that Google Apps for Education (GAFE) accounts are covered by more restrictive data privacy practices than “regular” Google accounts, including a restriction on advertising and the use of student data for advertising purposes. GAFE also was an early signatory to the Student Privacy Pledge.)
• Online Curriculum Systems: Most of the curriculum adopted in the District is accompanied by or depends on access to an online system where content and assessments are stored.  Many of these systems require students to have a unique account created for them which allows them to access supplemental video content, take quizzes, and strengthen their understanding about the ideas in a content area.  For District-wide curriculum, the District creates and manages these accounts.  In these cases, the terms of use and privacy policies are reviewed thoroughly before providing any student account data to the vendor.

Under the Federal Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), the District is required to filter Internet access and to teach online safety.  The District takes your student’s safety and privacy very seriously and makes every effort to supervise and monitor student technology use.  We use Internet filtering software to block access to content that is obscene, pornographic, or harmful to minors. We provide instruction to all students in the area of Digital Citizenship through use of District-approved curriculum from Common Sense Media.

NSD 1:1 - Student Devices

Students are assigned district Chromebooks, charging cables, and protective cases. They should bring them to school daily in protective cases and charge them at home each evening.
