Hello Leota Lion Families,

Mid-Winter Break has arrived. This week brought a lot of excitement and energy. Between Valentine's Day, the assembly, and the anticipation of break, the students and staff could hardly contain themselves. With that being said, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

We just completed our first all school assembly in three years. The students celebrated the accomplishments of their peers’ square dancing abilities. I am so pleased at how the students supported one another.

Leota Middle School had an amazing visit with Superintendent Tolley yesterday Thursday. It was my pleasure to show Superintendent Tolley around Leota Middle School and allow him to learn about all of the amazing work taking place with the staff and students.

A special thanks to all of the families that help recognize the staff with a pasta lunch on Wednesday. We are so spoiled by all of your generosity.

For those that pick up their student after school, please remember that the area around the school is an idle free zone. This helps with both noise and air quality. Thank you for helping support the health and safety of those around you.

The Department of Health (DOH) requires schools to inform families and students of COVID-19 cases and potential outbreaks. This week, there were a total of 6 confirmed cases at our school. The accuracy of our data depends on self-reporting. Thank you for continuing to let the school know if your child tests positive for COVID-19. To view additional information, including school and district trends visit the District’s COVID-19 data dashboard. The dashboard is updated weekly on Monday evenings.

Please have a wonderful Mid-Winter Break. I look forward to seeing everyone when we return to school on Monday, February 27th.

In partnership,

Scott Leick, Principal

Leota Middle School

Serve on the PTSA Board

Elections for next year’s Leota PTSA Board are coming up in May. The Treasurer and President will soon max out their terms, so those roles--along with other Board roles--will be open to new volunteers. If you’re interested in making a difference at Leota, the PTSA would love to have you join our Board and committees.

Find out about these opportunities at the next PTSA General Membership meeting on Wednesday, March 15, at 7 pm.

Any Leota PTSA member can be a candidate for these roles. If you want to learn more about how the PTSA supports the school and staff, or if you want to get more involved in your child’s school, be sure to put this meeting on your calendar!

Volunteers needed

Student Store

The Student Store is looking for a few more volunteers! Work with other Leota parents to help sell popcorn, treats, and spirit wear at lunchtime. Only a few spots remain, so be sure to jump on this quickly. To sign up, click on the Student Store volunteer signup or email studentstore@leotaptsa.com for more information.

Reminder: Please complete your Volunteer Level 1 background check before your first volunteer day.

Staff Appreciation events

Calling all volunteers! We have almost 90 staff at Leota this year, and we want to show each and every one of them how much we value their contributions to our school. Please take a look at the next event and consider contributing:

March 15: Loaded Baked Potatoes

The staff really enjoy these lunches, and they often comment how lucky they feel to work at Leota and be shown so much appreciation. Thanks for your help!

Reminder: Volunteer background checks

To volunteer on campus at Leota or any other facility in the Northshore School District, you’ll need to submit an online application for a Level 1 background check. Volunteers must update the application every year, and it must be completed before the first day of volunteering. To begin the process, visit the district’s Become a Volunteer webpage.

Tips to help families navigate emergencies

Tip: Keep your info current in ParentVue

NSD uses an automated message system to quickly send alerts to families. In the event of an emergency, the district will call, text, email, and send an app notification. The system only works if your contact numbers and emails are up to date in the student information system. Please take a moment to make sure your contact info is current in ParentVue.
