Principal’s Message

April 21, 2023

Hello Leota Lion Families,

How quickly the month of April goes when we are having fun. We have just wrapped up our first week after Spring Break. The students and staff returned to action in such a positive way. I appreciate your support in encouraging your student to make successful choices.

Update from the lunchroom. After providing the students assigned seating during 2nd lunch, the students rebounded well and did a great job listening to our key expectations, keep your hands to yourself, keep aisles clear, only get in line for feed if you are buying something, inside voice, and most importantly, please clean up after yourself. We still have a few that need to work on some of those expectations, but we will work with them individually and not as an entire group. With that being said, the students will be able to self select their seating location next week.

On behalf of the students and staff, I would like to thank all of the volunteers that support Leota Middle School. This week, April 16-22 was Volunteer Appreciation Week. Without all of your support with activities, athletics, and academics,  we would not have the same level of success. Thank you so much for taking the time to give back to others. We look forward to continuing to partner with each of you.

We have seen an increase in students needing to borrow a chromebook during the school day. Please check with your student to ensure they are coming to school prepared with all necessary supplies. The month of May includes a variety of testing days, so it is very important that all of our students are prepared with fully charged chromebooks.

The state’s Smarter Balance testing will take place soon. Specific schedules will be provided in the next newsletter:

May 8th & 9th WCAS Science Testing- 8th graders only

May 11th & 12th ELA Testing- all students

May 16th & 17th Math Testing- all students

Have a wonderful final week of April. I am hopeful the month of May brings all of us more sunshine. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

In partnership,

Scott Leick, Principal

Leota Middle School

Info meeting for 2024 trip to Washington, DC

Mrs. Van Avery and Mrs. Flowers are excited to announce plans for an educational and super-fun trip to Washington, DC; Baltimore; and Gettysburg!

This opportunity is open to all current 6th and 7th grade Leota Middle School students (i.e., next year’s 7th and 8th graders) and their family members. The trip will take place next Spring Break in April 2024.

Because this trip happens only every two years, the 2024 trip will be both classes’ only chance to participate!

Mrs. Van Avery and Mrs. Flowers will host a parent informational meeting on Zoom on Thursday, May 11, at 7:30 pm. Please join at this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88454289089.

All interested parents/guardians are welcome to attend the informational meeting, but you do not need to attend in order to register for the tour.

Questions? Please email Mrs. Van Avery (lead teacher organizer) at lookingforwardtodc@hotmail.com or Yuval Bauman (Apple Student Tours rep) at yuval@apple-tours.com.

Note: This trip is an independently sponsored event by Apple Student Tours and Mrs. Van Avery/Mrs. Flowers. This trip is NOT affiliated with, nor sponsored by, Leota Middle School, Leota Middle School PTSA, or the Northshore School District.‚Äč
