7th and 8th Grade Volleyball Expectations
LEOTA 7th/8th GRADE VOLLEYBALL
Congrats and Welcome to Leota Middle School Volleyball!
We are super excited to share the amazing sport of volleyball with you. Here are some things you need to know in order to get ready for a successful season!
Volleyball Program Overview: The Leota Middle School Volleyball Program is committed to recognizing the unique talents of players, building success through active participation, furthering skill development, promoting positive sportsmanship, and emphasizing the joy of volleyball.
Practice Expectations:
1. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND EVERY PRACTICE IN A PUNCTUAL MANNER. Practice will be Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri 2:35-4:00. We won’t have practice on Wednesdays. This is our schedule until matches begin on 9/28. Then we will only have practice on Tuesday/Friday from 2:35-4:00
2. Please notify coaches in the event you cannot attend a practice BEFORE the practice is held. You are expected to be at practice on time unless you have been excused. Players who fail to notify coaches of an absence will have reduced playing time.
3. You are expected to be positive about yourself and others. Complaining about others or being down on yourself causes disharmony on a team and can lead to possible problems during both practice and games. Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated, we’re a team and we will treat each other as teammates.
4. You must participate in 8 practices to be eligible for the 1st match.
5. Come prepared to practice. Athletic clothing, proper shoes, knee pads (REQUIRED), water bottle, etc.
6. You will need knee pads for every practice and match. Black spandex or black shorts are MANDATORY for matches. Leota provides the jersey for the season. Athletic shoes are REQUIRED for all practices and matches. It is encouraged, but not required, to invest in ankle supports if you have a tendency to easily roll or sprain your ankles.
GAME Expectations:
7th Grade Plays First= 9/28-10/12
8th Grade Plays First =10/16-10/30
1. Sports fee is required before the first match. If this causes a hardship for your family, please speak with your players' Leota Counselor.
2. Matches start between 3:30-3:45 when playing first; and between 5:00-5:15 when playing second.
There is an activity bus that takes the team TO matches. There is NO transportation back to school after the AWAY match. You need to schedule your own transportation and they need to arrive promptly for pick-up as soon as the match has ended.
End time for 1st match is approximately 5:00-5:15pm; End time for 2nd match is approximately 6:15-6:30.
3. Every player must stay for line judging at some point in the season. (SIGN-UPS TBD). If a player fails to sign-up, they will be assigned a day and time.
4. Players are encouraged to stay for both matches in order to support each other.
5. Players are not allowed to wear jewelry (STUDDED EARRINGS ARE OKAY). This is strictly enforced for all matches and may result in a player being removed from a game and prohibited from play.
6. Black spandex or black shorts are MANDATORY for matches. Leota provides the jersey for the season. Athletic shoes are REQUIRED for all practices and matches. Knee pads are MANDATORY. It is encouraged, but not required, to invest in ankle supports if you have a tendency to easily roll or sprain your ankles.
7. Players are REQUIRED to stay after a home match and help with clean up. At all AWAY matches players MUST check out with a coach and provide a visual of their parent/guardian before leaving.
8. You are an ambassador for our school and volleyball program. As a member your conduct in school, at practice, in competition, and outside of school is a reflection on your team, school, and community. Your conduct should consistently serve as a positive role model for the program.
DISCIPLINE CHART: Offense First Time Repeat Late to practice Informal Conference with player Loss of playing time Unexcused Absences Informal Conference with player/communication to parent Increased loss of playing time *consistently missing practice may result in removal from practice/game/or team. Conduct / Sportsmanship Informal Conference with Coach and Admin Possible (Temporary) Removal from game play. Major Behavior Formal Conference with Admin Potential (Permanent) Removal from Team
ATTENDANCE IS VERY IMPORTANT. IF YOU ARE NOT AT A PRACTICE (FOR ANY REASON) IT AFFECTS YOUR TEAM.
Please keep the following things in mind as we work together this season:
GET ALONG WITH AND ENCOURAGE ALL TEAMMATES PRACTICE ESPECIALLY HARD ON CORRECTING WEAKNESSES. DESIRE, ENTHUSIASM, EFFORT AND DISCIPLINE ARE FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS. HAVE CONFIDENCE, BUT DO NOT UNDERRATE THE OPPOSITION. BE A GOOD SPORT. KEEP A LEVEL HEAD. WINNERS ARE WORKERS. GOOD LUCK AND SEE YOU AT PRACTICE.
Please be sure to read the emails from FinalForms as that is where you will get all program updates.
